Product Review

The Vax 6151 Multifunction canister vacuum is the ideal total home cleaning system. Your carpets may look clean on the surface, but the 6151 cleans right down to make your carpets look and feel revitalised in three ways:

A great everyday vacuum cleaner
A powerful, easy to manoeuvre large capacity cleaner, the combination floor head enables effective vacuuming on both carpets and hard floors, with the accessories offering a range of cleaning from upholstery to stairs and crevices.

Washes and dries carpets
The 6151's patented Fibreflow technology reaches deep down into the carpet pile where vacuuming can not always reach, flushing out dirt and dust, leaving your carpets looking fresh and revitalised. Washing with Vax AAA Carpet Cleaning Solution, which is specifically formulated for Vax to gently lift deep down dirt and stains, will leave a fresh fragrance, without any sticky residue.

Sucks up spills
Washing machine flooded the floor? Spilt milk? Not a problem for the Vax 6151.

Why wash my carpets?
Although regular vacuuming of your carpets removes everyday dirt, it does not completely remove the deep-down dirt and grease that makes carpets look flat and lifeless. Washing your carpets will.

The benefits of regular carpet washing:

  • Prolongs carpet life
  • Brightens colour and pattern
  • Refreshes carpet fibres by extracting odours and stains
  • Removes pollen and dust - the main triggers of asthma and hayfever.

Summary: Does as it says on the box!

Comment: Wow what a piece of kit. Cleans carpets easily with no effort and cleans hard floors easier than a bucket and sponge .Leaves them dry!No waiting to walk on after cleaning.Lots of bits to store when not in use but not a real problem.Would recommend to buy one if you clean youre carpets often as we do much cheaper than hireing a cleaner.

Summary: Wow

Comment: Well, what can I say what a machine it does everything I can possibly think you would want a hoover to do, apart from maybe steam clean.
I've used this now to hoover the entire house (the stair hose is a fantastic piece of kit, as I left the hoover at the bottom of the stairs & could clean to the top with ease, a lot less hassle than using an upright with normal hose);
clean the carpets, although I think my technique is poor it certainly did a good job;
and Ive used it to clean up after a flood in the kitchen, which although it got filled very quickly (due to the amount of water present) it certainly did a good job.
I haven't found the instruction manual to really be an issue (a few of the images are a little ambiguous but all in all its fairly small being all picture based thus it doesn't need fifty different translations.
I only have a few more minor criticisms which are: -
1. There are so many attachments I'm never sure which to use and storing all the parafenalia that comes with it isn't easy.
2. It is quite heavy, not really an issue for me but at 15Kg in its box with all the extras its a bit hard for the missus to manoeuvre.
3. It would be nice to have a decent way to store the power cable on the thing.
4. When in wet vac mode you end up having to leave the dust bag open which isn't ideal.
But none of these should really put anyone off buying this as all in I've found it excellent.

Summary: Vax 6151 SX 6 in 1

Comment: Bought the Vax to keep the wife quiet from constant moaning about muddy paw prints on the living room carpet. Having previously spent best part of £30 to hire an industrial carpet cleaner for the weekend, providing the Vax did a reasonable job it was going to be worth the investment.
Having read the previous reviewers comments on manuals (or lack of), I was prepared for the worst. On arrival I managed to get everything set up fairly swiftly, then let the Vax lose on the worst doggy affected areas.
Having spent a few hours lugging the industrial monster around the house it was great that the Vax was much lighter and most importantly actually seemed to achieve far superior results. The unit is also easy to empty/refill and wife is absolutely delighted with the results.
Have also used the upholstery attachments on my car seats (dog insists on riding shot-gun) and the results are equally pleasing.
My one critisism is using the unit for normal dry carpet vacuming. The turbo brush tool doesn't really pick up like a conventional upright cleaner, but then that was not why I bought it.
Cost of Springer Spaniel = £350
Vaxinations etc = £150
6 in 1 Vax = £130
Clean carpet and quiet life = priceless!

Summary: Vax 6151 SX.

Comment: Excellent machine, let down by a woefully inadequate user manual. E-mailed Vax with my comments - no response !!!
If you are considering this type of vacuum and have never used a wet/dry vac previously, think seriously of an alternative. If you are used to this type of vacuum, using it should'nt be to much of a problem. We have had to get used to this item, more or less by trial and error. On purchasing from Amazon, and reading the spec for this item, we were informed, amongst other features, that the Vax 6151 SX had a steam cleaning facility, this we have yet to discover !!! Considering the cost of this product, (£160.00)
we would have expected a more substantial user manual. Visiting the Vax web site to download their manual was a total waste of time, as apart from two small paragraphs in English, the rest was in various foreign languages. If Vax are serious about marketing their products in the UK, they should review their strategy with regard to the less than satisfactory instructions provided.
